Goals/Objectives:

The Cottage Shop (CS) is a direct-marketing company specializing in imported collectibles. Located in Stamford, CT, the Cottage Shop wanted to provide a new channel through which existing and future customers could purchase items. CS also wished to notify customers of updates and new products via an opt-in email newsletter.

CS required a shopping cart and secure ordering capabilities.

Process:
|
Webmaster, Inc. had several telephone meetings with CS principles to define the scope of the website, the various sections, and the underlying function of each section. Once the general structure of the website was determined, CS provided their company logo, product images, and text for each section. Webmaster, Inc. then developed a mockup of the design for approval. When the design was agreed to, Webmaster, Inc. integrated the text and functionality into the design. CS then purchased AbleCommerce, a ColdFusion-based shopping cart and database program. Webmaster, Inc. created custom templates and input products and product categories. CS reviewed the site for errors and changes. The site was then uploaded to the web server and search optimization operations were performed. Finally, SSL (secure transaction technology) was implemented and the site went "live".

- AbleCommerce software allows for easy maintenance, as well as a wide variety of functionality such as a shopping cart front-end, a graphical backend for product changes and additions, a product search engine, and more.
- Webmaster, Inc. implemented a custom mailing list management utility to simplify the process of creating and emailing newsletters.
- Website visitors can request a catalog through a simple form interface.
- The site has several hundred products in a wide variety of categories.
- CS purchased an SSL key in order to provide secure ordering services for their customers.
